Comprehensive Approach

Why Our Comprehensive Approach Works

This is not another academic tutoring program for a specific subject, another book to read, another franchised testing or educational center, or another thing to do, but instead a Comprehensive Treatment Plan.

A non-drug based, therapeutic, whole child approach that provides support and experience that are required for your child to achieve success.

Children with problems in different areas, in a maze of questions, parents feel supported within the first session. Changed and balanced individual children blossom in our comprehensive programs. Our graduates get to be regular kids, sometimes for the first time, no matter what their age.

Kids of all ages, from infants to teens, can benefit. Symptoms can be diverse and show up at any age, in a variety of different ways. But the comprehensive nature of the therapy allows kids to make gains academically, socially, and emotionally.

Success By Design: A Therapist as Executive Director

Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh was created by Melissa Misra, MOT, OTR/L over 10 years ago. Given her strong desire to make a difference in children’s lives, she created a model that resulted in lasting positive change for her clients. As Executive Director, she keeps her finger on the pulse of therapeutic innovation and comprehensive treatment planning, all while ensuring her original vision stays intact.

A Comprehensive Program Like No Other

Using biological, health, and neurological brain architecture research from Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child, as well as learning theory used at MIT, we have create individualized plans for children like no other. Neural plasticity (the idea that we can grow and improve brain connections) is affected through physical, mental, and academic exercises that are unique to each child.

Getting to the root of the problem makes a difference, and results in success. We are experienced and know how to balance and improve brain function and enhance the brains neuro-chemical balance. Therapy, progress and wholistic planning promote and ensure gains over time. Your child’s improved self esteem and confidence is the result.

Help for Struggling Kids

It can be hard and heart wrenching to watch you child struggle. Difficulties with attention, dislike of homework, difficulty making and keeping friends are not easy for parents or children to deal with. The comprehensive nature of the Dyslexia Center of Pittsburgh programs really gets to the root of these types of problems. This allows the 90% success rating that parents see in children’s Progress Profile.

Kids go from disliking school work, to raising their hands in class, and testing well in school. Self esteem and social skills are improved as a result.

Kids can be seen at Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh whether or not they have a diagnosis. Some of the common problems we see include:

Dyslexia – Difficulty reading.

Dyscalculia – Difficulty with math.

Dysgraphia – Difficulty with handwriting.

Attention Deficit Disorder – Difficulty attending on one task, outside of screen time.

Sensory Processing Difficulties – Can include touch sensitivity, movement seeking (can’t sit still), auditory processing difficulties, anxiety over environmental situations, and taste aversion. Each sense may be hypo- or hyper-regulating.

Dyspraxia/Motor Incoordination – Difficulty in small (handwriting, buttons, finger, and eye-hand coordination tasks) and/or big movement activities (skipping, catching a ball).

High Functioning Autism

Social Difficulties with Friends and Family

Academic Difficulties

Lack of Sustained Focus

Decreased Confidence and Self Esteem

Anxiety Issues

Even if you child doesn’t have a diagnosis, or if you child seems to have a few different problematic symptoms, the Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh Comprehensive Treatment Plan can get to the root cause. Most often, when parents suspect their child is in need of therapy and support, they are correct. And research shows that early detection and treatment is the key predictor of future success.

“My child was told as early as 1st grade that he was different. I knew this was not a great way for my child to grow up so I contacted Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh. When I started seeing results in the first few sessions, I know it was money well spent. I understood what was at the root of the problem, and could therefore be a better advocate for my child overall.”

“I have a completely different child after his program at Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh. My child was diagnosed with ADHD. He was in high-school and was anxious for his college preparation exams. Additionally, he had decreased social skill and friends. He reported feeling disconnected and sometimes alone. Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh helped him gain the confidence to go to college and do well. He is now a college sophomore and studying accounting! I have recommended Dyslexia Therapy of Pittsburgh to friends and families, and continue to do so!”
